Wedding Dance Lessons

Make Your First Dance a Moment You Will Always Remember

Your wedding day is filled with unforgettable moments — and your first dance as a married couple is one of them. At Swing and Sway, we help couples prepare a first dance that feels natural, beautiful, and personal to them. Whether you have never danced before or already have some experience, we will teach you how to move together, feel comfortable on the dance floor, and enjoy your special moment rather than worry about every step.

Your First Dance — Your Song — Your Style

You choose the song that has meaning for you. We will help you choose the dance style and choreography that work best with your music, your personalities, your abilities, and the space available at your wedding.

Your first dance can be:

  • Romantic and elegant
  • Simple and relaxed
  • Fun and playful
  • Passionate and dramatic
  • A beautiful choreographed routine
  • Or simply a comfortable dance with a few special moments
There is no single "right" way to dance at a wedding. The right dance is the one that feels like you.

We Teach Couples, Not Just Steps

Wedding dance lessons are different from learning a routine from a video. We teach you how to dance with each other.

Our teaching philosophy is based on the idea that couple dancing is a language — not body language but a real one! You learn to communicate (lead and follow) through signals, movement, music, connection, and timing.

You will learn how to lead and follow, how to move together, how to use the music, and how to recover naturally if something doesn't go exactly as planned.

Our approach is gradual and practical. We start with what you need to feel comfortable and then build from there. As you become more confident, we can add turns, variations, styling, and unique choreography.

What Can We Teach You?

Depending on your song and the feeling you want to create, we can work with many different dance styles, including:

English Waltz • Viennese Waltz • Rumba • Cha Cha Cha • Foxtrot • Tango • Salsa • Bachata • Swing • Slow Rock • Hustle • Argentine Tango

We can also combine styles or create a customized routine specifically for your song.

From "We Can't Dance" to "We Look Great!"

You don't need to be a dancer to have a beautiful first dance.

Many couples come to us with the same concern: "We have never danced before!" That's perfectly fine.

Our goal is not to turn you into competitive dancers. Our goal is to give you enough knowledge, confidence, and practice so that when your song begins, you can look at each other, smile, and enjoy the moment.

How Many Lessons Do We Need?

Every couple is different. Some couples want a simple dance with a few memorable patterns. Others want a fully choreographed performance. We can tailor the number and pace of lessons to your wedding date and your goals.

1

Lesson 1 — Get Comfortable

Learn the basic movement, timing, and connection between partners.

2

Lessons 2–3 — Build Your Dance

Add turns, variations, and movements that fit your song.

3

Additional Lessons — Create Your Routine

For couples who want choreography, we build and practice a complete first-dance routine.

4

Final Practice — Wedding Ready

We practice the complete dance from beginning to end so you feel confident and prepared for the big day.

Private Wedding Dance Lessons

For wedding preparation, private lessons are especially useful because every lesson is focused on the two of you.

Your instructor can adjust the lesson to your experience, your song, your clothing, your wedding venue, and the amount of time available before the wedding.

Swing and Sway currently offers private and semi-private lessons, allowing us to tailor the learning experience to each couple.

More Than Just the First Dance

Once you learn your first dance, you may discover that you actually enjoy dancing together!

We can also help you prepare for other moments during your wedding celebration — including dancing with family and friends and feeling comfortable when the dance floor opens to everyone.

As we mentioned, our teaching philosophy is based on the idea that dancing is a language between two people. You learn to communicate through movement, music, connection, and timing. This also means that you can use what you learned all over the world in many scenes, parties or events.
